LTL, TL and Intermodal Transport: Let’s Sort Them Out!

Who would not wish to receive merchandise immediately, virtually, in a flash? Yet no effective teleportation system has been invented! While we wait for that invention, several options can speed up the transportation process and reduce costs.

What Is the TL Method (Truckload)?

TL stands for truckload and is also called full truckload. With this type of transport, your merchandise is the only thing loaded on the vehicle, because it takes all the available space or is heavy enough to reach the allotted weight.

What Is the LTL Method (Less-Than-Truckload)?

Space-Sharing

LTL stands for less-than-truckload. In other words, your load requires only a portion of the space in the trailer or truck. Your goods can be combined with other goods that essentially follow the same route. It is like your load is using a luxury bus!

Lower Costs

LTL transit means cost reduction. Indeed, space sharing is an excellent option, whether your delivery is rushed or not. Every customer pays only for the space taken by his or her goods and the distance traveled.

Moreover, you benefit from agreements that we have developed with several partners across Canada and the United States. That is another advantage for you!

Intermodal: An Interesting Option Between LTL and TL

Whatever type of transport you choose, it is possible for your goods to be carried by rail network if they are traveling far. If you are sending your items within Western Canada, for example, you can choose road transport only or include rail transport for a portion of the route.

  • Benefits: Transport by rail is cheaper and more environmentally friendly.
  • Drawbacks: Transport times are longer by train.

Our advice: Pack your items carefully because intermodal transport requires more handling!

The Bourret Advantage

At Transport Bourret, we have two competitive advantages that allow us to know exactly where your goods are! First, our dispatchers have an eye on our drivers at all times, so they know exactly where they are and can even direct them to less busy roads to avoid obstacles and delays.

Our computer system is our second major advantage. It allows us, among other things, to optimize the cargo loading order on loading docks. That means your goods are less handled, more secure.

What Kind of Transportation Is Best for You?

Whether your load only has a few kilometers to go, whether it is coming or departing from the United States or crossing Canada, we have a solution for you. If you have questions about the best way to transport your goods, contact us!
